Sail 500 miles deeper into the Gulf of Alaska and Prince William Sound on our back-to-back Voyage of the Glaciers Alaska cruise. Spend 14 days roundtrip from Vancouver, B.C., stopping in historic port cities like Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway. Enjoy three glacier-viewing experiences on every itinerary — including Glacier Bay National Park, Hubbard Glacier and College Fjord.

Bering Sea Crab Fishermen's Tour (The "Deadliest Catch" Tour)

However, that whale sighting was a premonition of extraordinary adventures to come on the Princess Cruises’ day Connoisseur Alaska Cruisetour. From exploring Denali National Park to fishing for salmon in Anchorage, discover the top Alaska destinations on a Princess cruise. The food on an Alaska cruise should be every bit as memorable as the excursions on shore.

Don’t Look Down on the Seawalk

On my tour, I felt I got a better overview of Alaska and a better feel for its expansiveness during the land portion, which I appreciated seeing first. Then, when I got to the coastal towns on the cruise, I was able to appreciate them for their quaint charm. I also saw a lot more wildlife on the land portion, which meant any animals I saw during the cruise were just a bonus. Tours fill up fast in Alaska, and that’s especially true for some popular ones like helicopter excursions that land on a glacier. It’s important to book as far in advance as you can to ensure your vacation isn’t affected by your first option being sold out.

From our own private balcony to picture windows throughout the ship to expansive decks, the views just kept coming. You will also travel by rail in a private Princess Cruises scenic railroad car and by tour bus to the various locations. I had my Medallion customized with an astrological symbol and ordered the rubber wristband. As if to answer me, the telltale poof of water shot out of the sea, followed by the dark, subtle hump of the whale as he followed alongside our massive 1,083-foot long ship.

Glacier Bay National Park

Along the way, enjoy two glacier-viewing experiences on every itinerary — including Glacier Bay National Park and Hubbard Glacier or College Fjord. With Cook My Catch excursions, experience the pinnacle of fresh seafood. Catch your own salmon or halibut with the help of a local expert, and in the evening our talented chefs will prepare your haul for your dinner — a Princess exclusive. At first glance many mistake Victoria for an English coastal city or northern European town. Full of greenery, pubs and Victorian architecture, it's difficult to believe that this was a tent city full of rough and tumble miners just 150 years ago.

When a water shuttle is required, guests using mobility devices will not be transferred into or out of the water shuttle, if lifting in excess of the above limitation is required. Many water shuttle ports do not provide wheelchair access so even if the guest can board the water shuttle, they may not be able to disembark ashore. Again, the shore-side facilities, movement of the water shuttle, weather and tidal conditions can also preclude the use of the water shuttle. Alaska cruisetours combine top-rated Voyage of the Glaciers cruise with three to ten nights on land exploring Denali National Park. Travel aboard exclusive Direct-to-the-Wilderness train and unwind at Princess Wilderness Lodges. On this two-and-a-half-hour excursion, you'll walk through the small city of Sitka -- once known as the Paris of the Pacific -- with a guide, stopping at various art galleries and artisan ateliers along the way.

This tour combines the work done at the raptor center with Sitka's cultural side. The ride takes only 90 seconds before your gentle, brake-activated touchdown on the beach. For even more adventure, some tours combine the Icy Straight Point zipline with an ATV ride. And, if you're going to do a floatplane ride, there's nowhere better than in Ketchikan.

Voyage through the untamed beauty from the comfort of our world-class ships, exclusive rail service and Princess Wilderness Lodges near national parks. Choose from a variety of Alaska cruise and cruisetour itineraries and connect with loved ones, locals and Alaska's wilderness with Princess®. Welcome to Anchorage, where moose wander the neighborhoods, eagles soar overhead, and world-class hotels and fine cuisine are a stone's throw from settlers' cabins. Glaciers, mountains, wildlife, Native Alaskan culture and the best shopping in Alaska are all found here.

That's why Princess Cruises is always refreshing their menus to deliver the best sensory experience through the Great Land. Sail with Princess and experience the best Alaska cruise food from morning to night. Princess' magnificently decorated ships have all the bells and whistles of a five-star hotel, with the added bonus of being able to bring you to each new destination in style. The cafes, restaurants, pool decks and even nightclubs are all whimsically decorated, with nods to the sea in many of the details. With between 2,200 and 3,000 passengers, these ships are quite large, but have plenty of public spaces and dining options to cater to all guests comfortably.

Ice Straight Point is a little port town built to accommodate the growing cruise industry. We were one of the fortunate few who got to go aboard a smaller vessel on the Tracy Arm Fjord & Glacier Explore excursion. This smaller ship was able to maneuver into areas that the large cruise ships cannot. Our incredible pilot flew us above the Misty Fjords National Monument and we saw the most breathtaking sites!

Lunch is served in a heated pavilion, and staff also stoke a roaring campfire to help you beat the chill and relax. You'll need to buy a one-day fishing license from the captain of the small boat for $15 cash, as required by Alaska law. If you catch a fish, you can have it packaged and shipped home for an additional fee, though your catch will not be permitted back onboard the ship. Check out the views if you dare to open your eyes as you literally zip down the mountain at speeds of roughly 60 miles per hour.

The beer was good, but we would have liked to see the town a little more. Unfortunately, everything was closed as soon as we got off the ship and we didn’t have time to see anything else after the excursion. College Fjord is the meeting place where many of Alaska’s glaciers congregate and flow to the ocean. At the water’s edge are massive valley glaciers and dozens of smaller monuments that dot the mountainous region. Thanks to the professors who first settled here in 1899, many of these glaciers are named after the country’s best institutions of higher learning, such as Harvard Glacier.
